Virginia Tech QuarkNET center annual report
The year 2020 has its effect on the Virginia Tech center as it did for so many other groups and events. As the lead teachers and the center member teachers were expected to participate in online training at their respective school districts over the summer in order to prepare for the unusual 2020-2021 school year, it was decided to forego our annual summer workshop. One bright spot: in the spring of 2020, during the Virginia-wide school shutdown, one local physics class at Christiansburg High (under Lead Teacher Rebecca Jaronski) was able to participate in the online BAMC (Big Analysis of Muons in CMS) Masterclass with great success. Students reported enjoying the experience of doing real, collaborative, particle physics analysis, especially given the pandemic situation. We at the VT Center are looking forward to next year and hopefully a return to our normal summer workshop and activities!
